Strong winds result in multiple rescues
The strong winds that swept across the region during the late afternoon on Friday, April 15 resulted in disruptive power outages, blowing debris, and accidents.
According to an article published by the Journal Saint-François, a pick-up truck and trailer were overturned in Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague by gusts that reportedly reached upwards of 75 kilometres per hour. A subsequent gust blew the trailer into the field along the road.
According to a spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, both passengers aboard the vehicle were transported to the nearest hospital with minor injuries.
In addition, a windsurfer was dragged into a dangerous situation on Lake Saint-François around 128th Avenue in Saint-Anicet. The individual was rescued by local firefighters.
The Saint-Anicet Fire Department was also called to a fire in a boathouse located on 126th Street.
The Sûreté du Québec also reported several trees and hydro poles were knocked down in the area due to the heavy winds.
