On March 29, officers from the Sûreté du Québec’s MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent station pulled a motorist over for speeding on Route 138 in Godmanchester. The offender, who was in his 20s, was clocked driving at 156 kilometres per hour in a 90 km/h zone. The driver received a $1,321 fine and 14 demerit points. His driver’s licence was also suspended for a period of seven days.
The Sûreté du Québec would like to remind all motorists that speeding is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions. On average, excessive speed is involved in 115 fatalities and 420 serious injuries on Quebec roads each year.
