Police officers of the Sûreté du Quebec’s MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent station arrested a 22-year-old driver from Salaberry-de-Valleyfield for impaired driving on May 14, after a somewhat relaxed pursuit.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., officers from the MRC de Beauharnois-Salaberry station attempted to stop a vehicle for a violation of the Highway Safety Code, but the driver did not stop. A pursuit at low speed continued until the individual drove over a spike strip deployed by officers on Route 202 in Huntingdon. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, then fled on foot but was quickly located by police and arrested for driving under the influence of drugs. He was taken to meet with a drug recognition expert while the vehicle he had been driving was impounded.
The individual was released with conditions, on a promise to appear before the court to face charges of impaired driving, fleeing police and trespassing. He was also issued a ticket for $1,550 for violating the curfew, as well as a second ticket for impaired driving. (SR)
