Five arrested during drug trafficking operation
Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec’s MRC de Beauharnois-Salaberry detachment carried out a drug trafficking operation in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield on March 3.
Officers searched a residence on Cléophas Street, resulting in the seizure of nearly 190 methamphetamine tablets, more than 200 cannabis jujubes, over 100 grams of dried cannabis, approximately 10 grams of hashish, prescription drugs, and five wax pens. Officers also seized 1,100 contraband cigarettes, and $300 in Canadian currency.
A total of five people were arrested, including two women and three men. All were released and could face charges related to drug trafficking.
At least ten police officers were involved in the operation, following an investigation that began in October 2025.
Fatal car accident in Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague
A 67-year-old resident of Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague passed away following a car accident on Rue Principale (Route 236) in his home municipality on March 5.
According to the Journal Saint-François, the accident occurred on a curve at the entrance to the village. The driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle, which flipped upside down into the ditch.
After being removed from the vehicle, the man was transported by ambulance to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The accident forced the closure of Route 236 until late in the evening. A collision reconstructionist was dispatched to the scene to determine the circumstances of the accident. (SR)
