Police chase leads officers from Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka to Beauharnois
A 32-year-old man was arrested following a lengthy police chase on September 11. Viva Média reports that patrol officers from the MRC de Beauharnois-Salaberry detachment attempted to intercept a car, reported as stolen, that was being driven in Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka around 11:30 a.m. The driver fled, with officers in close pursuit.
The chase continued through Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague, Saint-Étienne-de-Beauharnois, and Beauharnois, where a spike strip was eventually used to stop the vehicle. The suspect then tried to flee the scene on foot, but he was quickly tracked down and arrested.
According to Viva Média, the individual was already facing several arrest warrants, and could face additional charges.
Speeding in Ormstown and Saint-Étienne-de-Beauharnois
Patrol officers from the Sûreté du Québec’s MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent detachment pulled over a driver for speeding on September 1 in Ormstown. The driver, a man in his twenties, was intercepted travelling at 160 kilometres per hour in a 90 km/h zone on Route 201. The motorist received a $1,451 statement of offence as well as 14 demerit points on his driving record.
The day before, officers with the MRC de Beauharnois-Salaberry detachment stopped a vehicle around 9 a.m. for speeding in Saint-Étienne-de-Beauharnois. The motorist, a 43-year-old man, was clocked driving 99 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Chemin Saint-Louis. He received an $802 fine as well as 10 demerit points for the offence.
The SQ points out that speed is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions on Quebec roads. (SR)
