Powerscourt Bridge commemorated on Canada Post stamp

Powerscourt Bridge commemorated on Canada Post stamp

Canada Post has issued a new series of five stamps featuring Canada’s covered bridges, including the Powerscourt Bridge linking Hinchinbrooke with the municipality of Elgin. The stamps honour rural Canada, with each one showing a photograph of the bridge, its name, and key details, including the year it was built, span length and type of truss. The Powerscourt Bridge, also known as the Percy Bridge, has been deemed Canada’s oldest covered bridge still in use and the only remaining example of the McCallum arched truss design in the world. Other bridges featured include the Hartland Covered Bridge in New Brunswick, the Félix-Gabriel-Marchand Bridge in Quebec, Ontario’s West Montrose Bridge, and the Ashnola No. 1 Bridge in British Columbia. The series of permanent stamps, and postage-paid postcards, will be available to purchase as of June 17 at Canada Post offices country wide.
