Résidence-Elle du Haut-Saint-Laurent held a poignant demonstration to end this year’s white ribbon campaign marking the 12 days against violence against women.
In partnership with the Haut-Saint-Laurent Days of Action Against Violence Against Women committee, the women’s shelter hosted a photography exhibition at the Huntingdon Health Complex on December 6, featuring images of over 100 women from across the Haut-Saint-Laurent and neighbouring municipalities solemnly holding a sign declaring, “The next one is still alive.”
The exhibition also included several images of men holding a sign that read, “Not one more.”
“It is very powerful,” said Résidence-Elle assistant director Anik De Repentigny of the exhibition, which covered an entire wall.
Along with the photographs, the activity included a memorial dedicated to the 25 women who died by femicide across Quebec in 2024. Candles were lit, and the names of each of the women were listed on the wall.
Information about Résidence-Elle and the shelter’s services including housing, consultations, and workshops was also available. (SR)
