The Ormstown Saracens toasted the 2025 season during the rugby club’s annual banquet and awards ceremony late last year.
The event, which took place at the LBA Agri-Centre in Ormstown, represented an opportunity for the club to look back at a successful season. The senior men brought home the Division Two championship, while both the U14 girls and boys won their championships as well.
Awards were presented to Mitchell Recher as the Most Valuable Player on the men’s squad with runner-up Brandon McDowell, as well as Xavier Grandisson and Alex Richer, who were named Most Improved Players.
Connor Van Horne and Brady Baillie impressed in their first year with the club, earning them both Rookie of the Year titles.
The Rod Beattie Memorial Award, which is presented to individuals for their significant contribution to the club, was presented for a third time to Mark Sample. The Hardest Worker award was given for a second year in a row to Phylicia Brunette, as well as to Jamie Bohemen. Brunette was also named Member at Large for the club, while Lindsay Roy and Shannon Roy were tapped as the most sociable members.
On the women’s side, Lindsay Roy was named Most Valuable Player, with Élody Chagnon as runner-up, and Alexanne Boudreau as Most Improved Player. The Women’s 3D award was presented to Amy Howard, and Rookie of the Year honours were conferred to Daphné Valois.
The club had previously celebrated its outstanding junior players with the presentation of several awards at the end of the summer.
At the U14 level, the Most Valuable Player on the girl’s side was Jazmine Whyte, while the Most Improved Player was Jordyn Read and Amélia Hutton was Rookie of the Year.
Addison Wallace was named MVP for the U16 girls, along with Taylor Baulne as Most Improved, and Hailey McAdam as Rookie of the Year. The Rugger Awards were presented to Allison Brown(U14) and Mikayla Reid.
Honours for the U14 boys Rookie of the Year award were shared between Idriss Coulibaly Riou and Keith McCaig, while Wolfie Bider was the Most Improved Player. At the U16 level, Aidan McComber was named Rookie of the Year and Cale Ernie was Most Improved.
The 2026 season is already underway for the club, with indoor practices starting up in February. The men practice on Thursdays at Chateauguay Valley Regional High School (CVR) from 7-8:45 p.m. as of February 5, while the women take over the gym on Sundays from 2-3:30 p.m. at CVR from February 1. The mini rugby teams (aged 4-14) practice on Tuesdays from 7-9 pm at CVR as of February 17.
