Life has been busy at CVR these past weeks, with the school brimming with activities. The Leadership group recently organized Grade 6 orientation to welcome future Spartans to good old Chicken Valley Ranch! The event was a huge success, leaving Ms. Barrette and Ms. Georgaklis with a huge sense of pride at the hard work of the Student Leaders.
Once again, CVR students partnered with Quinn Farm for Easter. Students who are signed up for the Europe trip volunteered for the Easter Egg hunts that took place on the weekend of April 4 and again on the weekend of April 11. The students braved a few hours out in the wind and the rain to make some little kids really happy for Easter. The money raised from helping out in this event goes towards tips for the amazing tour guides, bus drivers, and any other services that are needed on the trip.
Rugby has finally started its season with only a few sunny days for practice. This means that players have been doing what they do best and have been getting all muddy. This led the boys to take an impromptu shower in the puddles, slip-and-slide style – though that may only be the boys’ excuse to take their shirts off in their vigorous preparations for upcoming games. Speaking of which, games start the week of April 20, so get ready for some action on the field.
There has been no shortage of activities in the arts this month either, with Poetry Night having taken place on April 16. Students of all grades came to let their talents shine, with some reciting original poems and others reading some of their favourites from other authors.
There was also an Earth Day Forum that was held at CVR on April 18 in which Erika Rosenbaum had some of the students from her after-school theatre program perform a play to remind everyone what a lovely place our planet is and show people the importance of protecting it.
Some other exciting news is that Performing Arts is getting ready to perform this year’s production of Moana! The first show will take place on Friday, May 1, with the others following that weekend.
