During the beginning of February, Leadership organized Sweet Shoutouts, messages that students or teachers could send to somebody in the school along with a candy for Valentine’s Day. These cute messages cost 25 cents to send and were supposed to be distributed on February 13, but the distribution was postponed to February 27 because of the snow day. All the proceeds went to Leadership to fund future activities.
Leadership also organized the Carnival Craze held at lunch on February 24. It was supposed to be held on the 19, but with the two snow days, it was postponed. It featured activities like trivia and paper airplane contests to win tickets for cotton candy, popcorn, or to get henna art.
Students were also be able to pay 25 cents to tape a teacher on the wall. Ms. Babin volunteered to be taped to the wall and by the end of lunch on the 24th, students found out if there was enough tape to hold her up. Students could also pay to pie a teacher in the face: seven jars were set up, each with the name of a different teacher, and the jar with the most donations determined which teacher was pie-ed. Students donated to Ms. Avery’s, Mr. Iqbal’s, Ms. Erica’s, Mr. Brooks’s, Mr. Muller’s, Mr. McClintock’s, or Ms. Jadah’s jar. All the proceeds from taping and pie-ing teachers will go to the local food pantry, La Bouffe Additionelle.
On February 20, CVR’s book club had its very first meeting. Ms. Bussey, Ms. Sheri, and the new librarian for the school board, Ms. Vanessa Finnie, organized this club for students who love reading and want to share this passion with other CVR students. People from any grade could join and pitch a book to the group. Their first meeting was quite successful, and the students are excited to meet again and begin reading their group novel. Their next meeting is on March 12.
Basketball is starting to come to an end. For the cadet and juvenile teams, the SSIAA finals are on March 13. For the bantam teams, their finals were on February 22. All teams have had a great season and have worked extremely hard. The players are excited for the finals.
The students and teachers going on the 2025 Europe trip have organized many fundraisers before they leave on February 27. They have held bake sales at the Winter Gala and parent-teacher interviews, and they sold Beaver Tails at lunch to students and teachers. The students also did many individual fundraisers like selling chocolate, apple crisps, and Krispy Kreme donuts. They are all very excited for their upcoming departure.
