Summer is in full swing! The heat is here, school is out, and the Valley is full of fun seasonal activities. The Gleaner is going on vacation for two weeks, and while we’re gone, there are lots of incredible outdoor activities taking place all over the region.
Looking for something educational and fun? At Droulers-Tsiionhiakwatha Archaeological Site, guests can do a tour of the grounds, and participate in their summer family challenge, where they need to find and answer eight hidden questions around the site. There is also La Réserve Nationale de Faune du Lac Saint-François, which is open Tuesday to Sunday, and offers activities like kayaking, nature walks, and their “Beaver For A Day” excursion. For animal lovers, there is also Parc Safari, where visitors can see all kinds of creatures from around the world.
For sports lovers, Kayak Safari is always a crowd pleaser. Until August 22 they are open every day, but a reservation is required because slots fill up quickly. Most extracurricular sports registrations are done, but every team needs cheerleaders to support them throughout the summer.
Outdoor concerts can also be a fun way to spend time over the season. On July 11, Havelock hosted the annual Music Madness event. But there are more to enjoy. Brasserie Barabas has live music all summer long. There will also be music at the Saint-Anicet Corn Festival on July 17 and 18. The Huntingdon Fair, August 6 to 9, will also feature live bands.
If there’s a berry lover in your house, why not take advantage of all the U-Picks. Ferme Giroflée, Bleuetière La Planète Bleue, Bleuetière OliDan, Ferme Mille Cailloux, Bleuetière Linda et Ulrich, Vergers de la Montée Covey Hill, Ferme Hubert Sauvé – all offer U-Picks during berry season. Besides berries, there is also a flower U-Pick at Le Lavandou. In Franklin, Le Lavandou is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and the fields are available for guests to build their own bouquets.
Regardless of what you choose to do, there is lots to enjoy in the Valley this summer. The Gleaner will return August 12 and will be enjoying some time outside until then.
