The Burning BRASs Band performed an exuberant concert in celebration of International Women’s Day on March 13.
The first brass band made up entirely of women and non-binary individuals in Canada brought their unique talent to the stage at Chateauguay Valley Regional High School in Ormstown. They took the audience on a true musical journey through several styles of music, from traditional brass band to songs they had composed themselves to pop anthems, and even a little punk.
Around 100 people attended the concert. “It was exciting how they all played their instruments together. A lot of people got up and danced because the music was so fun,” said a young person while watching the show. “People knew a lot of the songs that were being played by the band.”
This was the band’s first time playing in Ormstown. The concert was organized by the International Women’s Day committee in the Haut-Saint-Laurent.
