Talent Fest 2024

It’s that time again! Catch the fun-filled disco-themed Saturday-Night-Feverish show happening at CVR on Friday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.). Tickets cost $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors general admission, and they are available at the door.

Gather up those empties

The Ormstown Scouts and Girl Guides, in collaboration with Genie in a Bottle, are holding a bottle drive on Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Lac-Matic in Ormstown (8 Gale Street).

Huntingdon County Farmers’ Market

Get your high-quality locally made/grown Easter treats on Sunday, March 24, at the rec centre in Ormstown (87 Roy Street). Check it out, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – it’s one of the few winter farmers’ markets in Quebec.

Hemmingford Legion chicken BBQ dinner

Enjoy another delicious chicken dinner at the Hemmingford Legion on March 30, and enjoy their Easter decorations! Reservations only; call Sheila Moore at 514-347-1177 by Friday, March 29. You get a large half-chicken, baked potato, gravy, coleslaw, dinner roll, and dessert, all for only a $20 donation. Pickup is from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Legion Hall (486 Rue Champlain).

Easter Egg hunt

The ‘Hunt’ingdon Optimists are holding an Easter Egg hunt at the ‘Hunt’ingdon fairgrounds on March 30. The fun begins at 10 a.m. Chasse those cocos!

Give some blood, please

There will be a blood drive in memory of Mark O’Connor on April 11 at the Ormstown rec centre. You must make an appointment at hema-quebec.qc.ca or 1-800-343-7264. Roll up your sleeves; it helps so many.

HSL volunteers of distinction

The Soirée Bénévole will be held during National Volunteer Week on April 12 at the Franklin rec centre (2555 Rue du Parc).

13th Rural Youth Gala

Do you know an exceptional HSL youngster between the ages of 6 and 24? Recognize them for their outstanding volunteering, academic or social perseverance, positive lifestyle, resilience and engagement in their journey, or cultural or environmental involvement. Fill out the nomination form by April 17; more info can be found on the Gala Jeunesse Rurale Facebook page.

Pulled-pork sandwich supper

Does that sound delicious? You bet! The Guides are holding one to fundraise for their Maritimes trip on April 20 at MacDougall Hall in Ormstown (19 Lambton Street). Cost is $20 per adult, $10 for kids aged 5-11, and little ones under 5 eat for free. The meal includes a sandwich, potato salad, coleslaw, a brownie (the baked kind), and coffee or tea.

Local archaeology

The Droulers Tsiionhiakwatha Archeological Site will be holding its AGM by videoconference; you can find the link on the Facebook page. The meeting will he held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on April 15.

Books brought to you!

The Ormstown Library provides the “loan of books at home” for Ormstown residents aged over 65 who are unable to go to the library. Contact them at 450-829-3249 or biblio@ormstown.ca.
