Suicide prevention in HSL
Suicide Prevention Week (February 2 to 8) will focus on encouraging people to talk about suicide and ask for help. The Comité de Détresse Sociale will be distributing placemats with information on local mental health resources to participating restaurants. Ormstown Saracens Rugby senior women’s social
Whether you’ve retired your boots, are currently rocking the jersey, or are thinking about joining the squad, meet up between 7 and 9 p.m. at Bar Le Vieux Moulin this Friday, January 31. Celebrate the strength, spirit, and sisterhood of this rugby family together for a night of laughs and stories.
Little Green Library AGM
The LGL (4 Lorne Street, Huntingdon) is holding its annual general meeting on Saturday, February 1, at 10:30 a.m. There will be a review of last year’s projects, elections, and planning for next year. The library is 100 per cent run by volunteers – get involved! Got project ideas? Bring ‘em!
Quilts of Valour
Local quilters will be gathering at the Huntingdon Legion on February 7 for the International Quilt of Valour sewing day, from 9 a.m. to 3p.m.; lunch is provided. Bring your sewing tools!
Sainte-Barbe Carnival
After 20 years, this winter carnival is back! On February 8 in the municipal park (475, Chemin de l’Église), there will be hockey, sliding, snowshoeing, biking, campfires, ice sculptures, conifer-tossing (!), cross-country skiing, hot chocolate, grillades, and even more! Saracens Curling Classic
Join the rugby gang for their annual curling tournament on Saturday, February 8, at the Ormstown Curling Club. There will be a competitive and a noncompetitive division; games will be four ends long and the tournament is open to all. The Saracens spaghetti supper fundraiser…
…will benefit the senior women’s rugby team and happens on Saturday, February 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ormstown Curling Club. Cost is $20/adult, $10/child (5-12), and children four and under eat for free. Takeaway option is available. Order through e-transfer, o.saracens.rfc@gmail.com.
Try a triathlon
The 22nd edition of the Valleyfield Triathlon is on August 16 and 17. Registration costs less until February 15; places are limited, so register quickly! More info is at TriathlonValleyfield.com. There are events for all levels, including some pretty big important ones.
Strings attached
There will be free marionette-building workshops for kids aged 4-10 and parents, at the Little Green Library on Saturday, February 15! There will be three groups at three times; reservations are required at 450-264-4872 or pbv.lgl@gmail.com.
