Volunteers drive bottle and can collection

PHOTO Genie in a Bottle Project

The Genie in a Bottle Project held another successful bottle and can drive in support of the Betty Riel Foundation on April 9 in Godmanchester. Thousands of cans, plastic bottles, and glass bottles were collected, sorted, and processed on-site, despite the cool and rainy weather. Early estimates suggested a donation of around $2,000 would result from the activity, which brought together nearly 30 volunteers, including members of the Ormstown 4-H club. To thank those 4-H members, who have now helped during multiple drives, organizers provided their club with a $400 donation.

The day before, on April 8, project founder Shirley Cavanaugh presented a $500 donation to the Huntingdon Adult Education and Community Centre (HAECC) in recognition of student Christopher Deschamps, who volunteers every Thursday to sort cans and bottles.
