Dear Readers,
I want to wish you all an incredible and powerful New Year and hope that all of your dreams and desires become a reality.
In the last couple of years, several of my good friends who were all extremely talented musicians that I worked with have left their earthly bodies. Just recently, Steve Segal, my dear friend and one of the finest guitarists I ever worked with, left us to join his friends in a “bad-ass rock band” playing somewhere on the other side. Steve played guitar, arranged the music, recorded, and produced my last album entitled Just Gettin Started.
I am semi-retired from the music business in the fashion of performing, but I still write music and play for myself in my studio. I was thinking that, for my readers, I could write some of my poetry that I put into musical compositions. I have written many of the songs that I recorded in the last sixty years, and I thought I would share some of them with you, especially the ones that tell of my personal experiences.
This is one of the songs that I wrote with Steve Segal for my last CD.
“What the Heck”
Remember? Martinis on the beach, Walking hand in hand, Toes in the sand,
You were my only man.
Do you remember? Laying in the sun, Rolling in the towel, We were having so much fun.
You were my only one.
And we huffed and we huffed and we puffed and You blew my mind away.
Whatever happened to the man I used to know? Where’d he run off to, Where’d he go?
We used to cuddle, We used to be tight. But now he leaves me home alone,
Night after night after night.
And I ask myself, “Ain’t you got no pride? Ain’t you got no self respect?”
Then I think, maybe yeah; But oh well, What the heck.
Over? They say it ain’t over till the fat lady sings, And he still zings my strings,
You know what I mean?
He’s like a light, That keeps me up all night. He won’t let go, And he keeps pulling me back inside.
Then I ask myself, “Do you get what you want, Or do you just get what you expect?”
And I think, maybe yeah; But oh well, What the heck.
RIP my dear friend. I will miss you, but I will always have your unforgettable solo at the end of this song. Thank you, Stevie.
