Woman dies following car accident in Godmanchester

A 61-year-old woman was pronounced dead on Sunday following a car accident in Godmanchester.

The victim has been identified as Godmanchester resident Sarah Pouliot. According to Valérie Beauchamp of the Sûreté du Québec, the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m., while she was driving on Route 138, near the Montée Smellie.

The driver, who was alone in the sport utility vehicle, swerved off the road and rolled several times before coming to a stop. The woman was ejected from the vehicle. According to police, speed was not a factor.

She was transported by ambulance to the Suroît Hospital in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, where she was pronounced dead a few hours later.

An expert in collision investigation was sent to the scene by the Sûreté du Québec to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
