Brooke Scoble was inspired to start her own fundraiser after hearing a radio advertisement late last year. The seven-year-old from Howick decided to sell cookies and donate all her proceeds to the region’s food pantry, La Bouffe Additionnelle.
After baking up a storm, Scoble set up a table and sold boxes of her homemade treats during her municipality’s annual Santa Claus Parade. She also went door-to-door with her cookies, before selling more at her school and to friends and family.
Once the oven had cooled and all the cookies were sold, she had raised a total of $630 which she hand delivered to La Bouffe Additionnelle director Marine Mailloux on February 20.
“It was a very emotional and meaningful moment for our team,” said Mailloux in a social media post, where she referred to Scoble as an inspiring and bright young girl who already cares deeply about her community. “Brooke, we warmly congratulate you. Your gesture truly makes a difference and reminds us that generosity has no age,” Mailloux added. (SR)
