Arthur-Pigeon students shine on regional stage

Two students from Huntingdon’s École secondaire Arthur-Pigeon (EAP) lit up the stage during the regional finals of the Secondaire en spectacle competition, at Collège Bourget in Rigaud on March 15.

The event featured a series of performances by high school students, which were selected following local competitions that took place earlier in the year at EAP as well as the École secondaire de la Cité-des-Jeunes in Vaudreuil-Dorion, École secondaire du Chêne-Bleu in Pincourt, École secondaire des Patriotes-de-Beauharnois, École Jacques-Rousseau in Longueuil, Collège Jean de la Mennais in La Prairie, and Collège Bourget in Rigaud.

Two students from each school competed in one of two categories: interpretation and creation. After moving on from EAP’s local final on February 1, Marc-Olivier Bergeron finished in second place in the interpretation category, while Fée Sainte-Marie was awarded first place in the creation category.

With her win, Sainte-Marie moves on to the Rendez-Vous panquébécois (RVPQ), which will take place in Thetford Mines this year from May 30 to June 2.

Along with his second-place finish, Bergeron was also awarded one of three “Camp chanson Québécor de Petite-Vallée” prizes. Valued at $700, the prize will allow Bergeron to participate in a one-week stay this summer at the Camp Chanson de Petite-Vallée in Gaspésie.

Prior to the evening’s competition, both Bergeron and Sainte-Marie were offered the opportunity to participate in stage presence training by actor Daniel Malenfant. The students also took part in a technical dress rehearsal, supervised by a team of professional technicians accompanied by young technicians from participating schools.

Organized by Loisirs et Sport Montérégie, a second Secondaire en spectacle regional final will take place between March 22 and 24 at the Polyvalente Hyacinthe-Delorme in Saint-Hyacinthe.

Combined, the two regional finals will have brought together nearly 250 talented secondary students from 38 high schools across the Montérégie. (SR)
