By-election on the way in Ormstown

Ormstown residents will be called to the polls for a by-election early next year.

During the regular municipal council meeting on November 6, Ormstown mayor Christine McAleer confirmed the municipality had received a letter announcing the resignation of councillor number five, Kimberley Barrington, on October 30.

A notice declaring the post to be vacant was deposed during the meeting.

McAleer explained that because the resignation occurred more than 12 months before the next general election is scheduled to take place, a byelection to fill the vacant seat must be held.

The nomination period for residents interested in presenting their candidacy will run from January 19 to February 2.

If more than one candidate steps forward, a byelection will take place on March 3, 2024. (SR)
