December, as with November, has started off on the “warm” side. This has been particularly at night when the nighttime lows have been above the normal daytime highs, a trend that has been frequently observed throughout 2022.
The average temperature for the past week was 1 degree Celsius, down a notch from the first few days when it was 2.2 C, yet still considerably above the normal for the month of December of -4.5 C. The forecast for the remainder of the month is slightly below normal temperatures but without any deep cold spells – nighttime lows in the mid-teens (below zero) will be as cold as it gets.
Total precipitation for the month so far is 23 millimetres of rain and a smattering of snow, which is about normal for this stage of the month. There’s the possibility of a snowstorm in mid-December; the different weather networks are duelling over how big it will be and whether this area gets rain, or snow, or both… so hopefully it will be white for the holiday period. The January forecast is for frequent snowfalls and temperatures wedged between -5 and -20 C throughout the month.
On that cheery note – Merry Christmas and looking forward to a great New Year!
