November started cold then switched back to being September! The daytime high on Saturday was close to a record for the region (21.6 ℃ in 1996) and warmer than usual temperatures are forecast to continue for a good part of the week to come.
The average temperature for the past week was 7.5 °C, considerably above the normal for the month at 2.9 ℃. Once we’re past the “heat wave”, the rest of the month will be close to average so likely to be warmer than normal overall.
There was hardly any precipitation during the week, 1 mm of rain and 2 cm of snow, bringing the month-to-date precipitation to 2.6 mm, and the forecast for the month is not much more than a few days of showers.
While this has been great for combining the corn, and even taking a fourth cut of hay off the fields, those who have been ploughing and cleaning up ditches report that the ground is dry below the surface, the legacy of a very dry spring and the month of September. Cheer up, December is forecast to be cold with frequent snowfall, a great way to kick 2020 into the history books!
