November has been slowly cooling from its very warm start, with the average temperature now standing at 5.7 degrees Celsius – down a half a degree from the previous week, but still considerably above the normal of 2.9 C for the entire month. The warmer-than-average temperatures are the result of warmer-than-usual nights when, on two occasions, the nighttime low was as warm as the normal daytime high.
There was 19 millimetres of rain during the last week, bringing the month-to-date total to 30 mm, which is less than 50 per cent of what we’d normally expect for this time of year. Precipitation, maybe even some snowflakes, are forecast for the last week of the month, but the month is likely going to end warmer and drier than normal.
The forecast for December is for normal temperatures with a couple of cold snaps – Christmas Eve is forecast to be the coldest night of the month at -14 C – and frequent precipitation, including several snow falls starting on Christmas Day and through to the new year.
