Défi 100% Local encourages regional diet

Montérégie residents are being challenged to include more local products on their plates for the month of September. The eighth edition of the Défi 100% Local was launched last week to encourage a gradual transition towards increasingly local diets across the province. The challenge, and accompanying contest, will run throughout the month.

Participants can register to take part in the challenge online at defijemangelocal.ca. The website also features ideas and tips for sourcing and enjoying seasonal foods, as well as recipes and interesting content that is specific to the Montérégie region. There are also prizes to be won, including a gourmet travel voucher worth $500, a $200 gift certificate to SÉPAQ parks, or one of 16 gourmet boxes filled with regional products.

“By participating in the Challenge, you are making a commitment that supports families, revitalizes the region, strengthens our social fabric, reduces our environmental footprint, and helps the local economy,” says Maude St-Hilaire, a communications consultant and project manager with La Montérégie – Le garde manger du Québec.
