Update: Fatal accident in Saint-Anicet

A 71-year-old man lost his life after being struck by a 10-wheel heavy truck on Route 132 in Saint-Anicet on October 11.

The man was crossing the highway on foot near the Saint-Anicet Golf Club around 1:15 p.m. while the truck was being driven westward on Route 132.

The victim has since been identified as Joe Hackett, a teacher from Montreal. He was taken by ambulance to the Suroît Hospital in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck also suffered minor injuries.

Reconstruction officers from the Sûreté du Québec were dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the accident. (SR)
