Members of the team of paramedics at the Huntingdon Paraxion station were on hand earlier this year to present a cheque for $3,461 to representatives from the Huntingdon-based food pantry La Bouffe Additionnelle.
The generous donation was raised in part by local paramedics during the annual food drive in Huntingdon last December. The total amount collected was then doubled by Paraxion. Almost 2,240 different food items were also collected and donated to the food pantry.
“We are very grateful,” says La Bouffe Additionnelle director Sylvie Racette. “This amount has enabled us to continue to help the families and individuals who need it most,” she adds.
Scouts and Guides going door-to-door
The 1st Huntingdon Scouts and Girl Guides had also reached out to La Bouffe Additionnelle about organizing a food drive last December. Racette says they decided to look into holding one in the spring instead.
As a result, Guides and Scouts will be going door-to-door in Huntingdon as of 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, to collect donations of non-perishable food items to help stock the food pantry.
“It is fantastic to see that more and more, people are coming together to help us achieve our mission,” says Racette.
“This initiative will allow these young people to learn more about the problem of food insecurity,” she continues, before noting that the organization is very thankful for their support.
