ROCKBURN BOY HONORED IN THE U.S. WEST: Alex. Pollack Pulled Throttle For Nearly 45 Years on S.P. Locomotives … Pollack commenced his railroad career as a locomotive fireman on the Truckee Division in September 1880. He was promoted to switch engineer in the summer of 1882 and to road engineer in 1184 working the freightservice until 1897. He was then promoted to the passenger service in which capacity he served until his retirement on January 28th.

HUNTINGDON: Mr. James Fox had something unusual happen to him a week ago, something which will probably occur to anyone in Huntingdon County for another thousand years. While lunching with a few of his associates at the Chateau recently, Mr. Fox was relishing one of his favourite dishes, namely oysters. Quite to his surprise he discovered that one of them contained not one – but two – pearls. They were small, about half the size of a pea. So small that Mr. Fox nearly swallowed them. They were white, not completely round but beyond doubt they were pearls.
