Grain dryer fire in Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka

Firefighters from Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka responded to a fire in a grain dryer at a farm located on Chemin de la Rivière on November 27.

Hunters first noticed the fire and called 911 around 6 a.m., says Stéphane Brossoit, the director of the Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka fire department.

The Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and Sainte-Barbe fire departments also responded to the fire. According to Brossoit, around 20 firefighters were on scene for the operation, which lasted about three hours.

“We had to empty the dryer from below, but we absolutely had to spray the top of the dryer with a large volume of water because the corn that was burning was sticking to the walls of the dryer,” explains Brossoit.

The damage was limited to the dryer. The cause of the fire remains unknown.  (Valérie Lessard – Le Journal Saint-François)
