The Larocque Bridge linking Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka with Salaberry-de-Valleyfield will not be reopening to traffic on Friday morning. An electric panel near the bridge erroneously announced an early reopening Monday morning. A photograph of the sign was published to social media, and jubilant commuters began circulating the post.
Sam Pane, a government and community relations officer with the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation, confirmed that there was a glitch and unfortunately, the message communicated about the bridge reopening ahead of schedule was incorrect. “We are on schedule,” he confirmed, noting work was advancing well.
The bridge was closed on January 10 to complete necessary maintenance to replace the counterweight cables installed on the structure. The bridge is scheduled to reopen on March 17. (SR)
