This fall the MRC de Beauharnois-Salaberry is offering free workshops on how to restore antique windows. The workshops will be led by artisan carpenter Vincent Madore and are open to homeowners or anyone interested in learning more about the process.
These workshops will last three hours each and will teach people how to restore windows, and the practical application of these skills. The workshops will involve repair, glass cutting, puttying, and painting. Folks who are interested can register in advance online for one of the two sessions. The workshops will take place on September 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the MUSO in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and on October 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Salle Yvon-Julien in Beauharnois.
Madore’s expertise in carpentry means he is well-equipped to run these workshops. His specialty is in cabinetmaking and joinery techniques and includes woodwork, doors, windows, furniture, and architectural ornaments. He also makes reproductions of moldings and columns.
Mélissa Dostaler-Brosseau, the heritage development advisor for the MRC de Beauharnois-Salaberry, shares that “Protecting our built heritage depends not only on municipal administrations, but also on citizens and property owners. Thanks to this workshop, the latter will be better equipped to maintain old windows, while learning more about the original architectural components specific to the territory’s heritage buildings.”
