The four black and white animal illustrations featured in the recently unveiled Heritage Livestock Canada logo will likely appear familiar to some in the Valley. Two years ago, professional artist and Saint-Chrysostôme resident Alyson Champ created a bestiary of rare and endangered farm animals as part of the Rare Beasts project in partnership with the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec (CALQ) and the MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent. A proud member of Heritage Livestock Canada, Champ says the association was instrumental in getting the Rare Beasts project off the ground. “It was an honour for me to create the artwork for their new logo. The animals chosen were all raised in Quebec in the past,” she explains. The animals featured are the Lacombe pig, the Canadian horse, the Canadian cow and the Chantecler rooster.
