The nominees for the prestigious title of Women Farmer of the Year for the Montérégie-Ouest region have been announced.
The Agricultrices de la Montérégie-Ouest have named one candidate from each of the five MRCs or sectors. The winner will be announced during the 25th edition of the annual gala hosted by the organization on October 5 in Saint-Rémi. The gala serves as a celebration of the excellence, perseverance, and commitment of the region’s women farmers, while showcasing the significant contributions made by women in agriculture.
The candidate for the Haut-Saint-Laurent sector is dairy farmer Mélissa Sylvestre of the Howick-based Ferme M&A Scoble S.E.N.C. (Money Making Ayrshires), while beef and field crop producer Mélissa Bourdon of the Ferme Méliçois S.E.N.C. in Saint-Étienne-de-Beauharnois will represent the Beauharnois-Salaberry sector.
Hot-pepper specialist and market gardener Marie Morin of Les Serres St. Laz in Saint-Clet was nominated for the Vaudreuil-Soulanges sector, and market gardener Marie-Eve Dupont of the Napierville-based farm Le Marinier will represent the Jardins-de-Napierville sector.
The fifth and final candidate is Gabriela Rempfler of the Ferme Edelweiss dairy farm in Saint-Isidore, who was selected for the Roussillon sector.
The winner of the regional title will go on to be included as a candidate at the provincial level during the annual gala hosted by the Fédération des agricultrices du Québec in 2025. (SR)
