The Women’s Auxiliary of the Barrie Memorial Hospital is hoping to see a jump in members this year as part of its annual fall membership drive and fundraising campaign.
“We have a lot of people who are sending in their memberships and donations,” says Lynn Caza, who manages the publicity for the organization. But “There is a huge difference now. It is not the same as it was when we were knocking on doors,” she admits.
Postcard reminders of the annual campaign were mailed out several weeks ago, and Caza says she hopes that they, and the bazaar on Saturday, will bring in new members. The $5 membership fee is now included as part of a donation, and the total amount given will be reflected on tax receipts provided by the organization. Men are also now welcome to become members of the auxiliary.
The Bazaar will take place at Chateauguay Valley Regional High School from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature the usual crafts, vendors, and baking. Once again, this year there will be no sit-down meal offered. Instead, visitors will be able to enjoy light meals and refreshments prepared by various vendors in the cafeteria.
All funds raised through the bazaar and the membership drive will go directly towards supporting the Barrie Memorial Hospital. Caza says over $250,000 in purchases for the hospital were approved at the last meeting for “all kinds of upgrades.” She notes the organization is also working hard to improve access to English television channels at the hospital in response to several requests from patients and their families.
Donations can be made by e-transfer to the email address, firstname.lastname@example.org, or by mailing a cheque addressed to the Women’s Auxiliary of the Barrie Memorial Hospital, 28 Gale Street, Ormstown, J0S 1K0.
