The MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent adopted a new tourism development policy during the regular meeting of the regional council of mayors on February 19.
The MRC aims to boost economic development within the Haut-Saint-Laurent through the creation of a sustainable and appealing tourism sector. The policy will support and enhance this sector by providing support for various projects, festivals, and local events.
“We want to stimulate the development of tourism in our region by supporting promising initiatives that contribute to the local economy and strengthen our regional identity,” said MRC prefect and mayor of Sainte-Barbe Louise Lebrun.
“This policy represents an opportunity for tourism stakeholders to realize their projects and to promote the Haut-Saint-Laurent region,” she emphasized.
The policy includes two funding components. The first component focuses on the development of structuring tourism projects. Aimed at for-profit and non-profit organizations as well as municipalities, this component provides financial assistance up to $25,000 for innovative projects that diversify and structure the region’s tourism offering.
The second component provides support up to $5,000 for regional festivals, events, and tourism initiatives that are aimed at enhancing the area’s attractiveness.
Funding applications from local businesses, organizations, and municipalities can be submitted to the MRC’s regional development department on an ongoing basis.
