Grade 1 students at Heritage Elementary School in Huntingdon decorated paper eggs and made Easter baskets during an activity with members of the Montérégie-West Community Network on April 16.
“I really liked painting with the ladies,” says Grade 1 student Marshall McKellar. “They talk to us about our day, and we get to do creative things with them,” he explains.
This was the second time the Grade 1 students at Heritage have worked with MWCN members this school year.
Nadya Kovacs, an outreach and program coordinator with the MWCN, describes the activities as “heartwarming intergenerational activities that allow young learners to connect meaningfully with community members.”
The initiative is funded by Canadian Heritage and the Bright Beginnings program through the Community Health and Social Services Network.
At the end of the activity, each student was presented with a crocheted miniature Easter basket filled with treats prepared by MWCN member Mary David. (SR)
