The Montérégie-West Community Network (MWCN) delivered boxes of personal hygiene products to six area secondary schools and career centres in September, as part of the organization’s youth mental health initiative.
The items, including feminine hygiene products as well as travel kits, will be distributed to students on an as-needs basis at Chateauguay Valley Regional High School, the Huntingdon Adult Education and Community Centre, the Chateauguay Valley Career Education Centre, Howard S. Billing’s High School, the Nova Career Centre, and to members of the Chateauguay social integration services program (pictured here).
“It is something that we do every year,” says Joanne Basilières, the MWCN’s employability and mental health coordinator. The organization invested $1,000 in the initiative, she explains, while noting how supporting proper hygiene can play an important role in improving student mental health. (SR)
