Ormstown organic farmer is finalist in province-wide contest

Olivier Lamoureux, one of the founders of COOP les Jardins de la Résistance in Ormstown, is a finalist in the Financière Agricole du Quebec’s 2021 Tournez-vous vers l’excellence contest. The contest, now in its 16th edition, highlights farmers across the province for their entrepreneurial skills, accomplishments, and the managerial qualities that drive them.

The COOP les Jardins de la Résistance produces organic vegetables, which are sold in subscription baskets directly to the clientele. The co-op has been in business since 2006 and has been certified organic by Ecocert since 2009. It has a heated greenhouse, a cold room, and a packing room, and can grow produce and distribute baskets all year long.

“My training has given me a meaningful basis for understanding the effects of farm work on the environment,” says Lamoureux in a press release about the finalists.

This year’s grand prize winner will take home a $5000 bursary. There is also a prize being awarded in sustainable development, and another on behalf of the Fonds d’investissement pour la relève Agricole (FIRA). The winners will be announced at the end of November 2021. (RP)
