Philippe Besombes is running for the position of mayor of Ormstown in the upcoming municipal elections on November 2.
“I’m here to bring a fresh vision to our municipality. It’s time we adopt an approach where our citizens are consulted and listened to, ensuring that essential projects are truly implemented,” says Besombes. He notes that many residents have encouraged him to take this step. “People have been reaching out to me about this for months. They want a change of approach and believe in my ability to achieve meaningful results for the benefit of our entire community,” he adds.
Besombes is deeply engaged in his community. He serves as a board member for Une Affaire de Famille, as president of the Association des gens d’affaires d’Ormstown et des environs (AGAO+), and vice-president of the Barrie Memorial Hospital Foundation. He has built a career as a senior manager in the health sector, having been the assistant executive director of three regional hospitals, and is currently teaching at the Université de Montréal. He also has experience in municipal politics from his time in France in the 1990s.
Besombes says he is in the process of assembling a team of citizens who will run as municipal councillors. “My goal is to surround myself with individuals ready to commit to the well-being of our municipality. Together, we will combine our strengths and expertise to build a better future for Ormstown,” he explains.
He aims to promote communication and collaboration with residents. With his team, he is preparing an electoral platform focused on resident participation, proposing the creation of several committees where elected officials and residents can exchange ideas. “This will allow everyone to get involved in the projects that impact our daily lives, as we will achieve the best results together,” he says.
One of Besombes’ primary goals is to develop infrastructure while maintaining reasonable taxation. “There have been too many delays in implementing essential changes, such as the water and sewer systems. I will pay particular attention to the planning and execution of these infrastructure projects. Additionally, we are considering establishing a new cultural and recreational centre that could house various services like a library, a performance hall, and spaces for non-profit organizations. I proposed this idea during the last election, and I believe this centre represents a great opportunity to strengthen the connections between citizens, associations, and community organizations,” he says, noting such a project will undergo extensive citizen consultation.
The complete electoral platform will be released in the coming months, but Besombes is already clear about his priorities: “I want to rebuild trust between citizens and the municipality. With effective management, attentive listening, and thoughtful planning, we can make Ormstown an even stronger community, where living is once again a real pleasure!” he concludes.
