Officers from the MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent station of the Sûreté du Québec stopped a motorist on Route 202 in Franklin, at approximately 7:40 a.m. on July 31, for a serious speeding violation. The offender was caught driving at 109 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. This driver was issued an $874 fine and was given 10 demerit points. As a result, his driver’s licence was immediately suspended for a period of seven days, as is required by the Highway Safety Code with regard to excessive speeding.
The Sûreté du Québec would like to remind drivers that speed is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions on Quebec roads and that the risk of being involved in a collision doubles with every 5 km/h above the speed limit.
