Motorist fined over $1,550 for speeding

Officers from the Sûreté du Québec’s MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent detachment intercepted a speeding motorist on Route 201 in Ormstown on November 16.

The driver, a man in his forties, was caught driving at 171 km/h in a zone where the speed limit is set at 90 km/h. He was fined $1,555 and 18 demerit points, and his license was suspended for seven days.

The Sûreté du Québec notes that speed is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions, and that the risk of being involved in a collision increases significantly when driving above the speed limit. (SR)
