Motorcyclist dies in an accident in Sainte-Barbe
A 49-year-old motorcyclist lost his life following a collision that took place on September 12 on Route 132 in Sainte-Barbe.
According to Catherine Bernard of the Sûreté du Québec, the accident occurred at the intersection of Chemin des Planches around 2:15 p.m. “A vehicle was travelling westbound on Route 132 and had started to make a left turn onto Chemin des Planches when it collided with a motorcyclist travelling eastbound,” she said.
The driver of the motorcycle suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. He has since been identified as Éric De Bellefeuille, from Vaudreuil-Dorion. (Valérie Lessard – Le Journal Saint-François)
Lamppost damaged in an accident in Howick
A lamppost was toppled during a collision between two vehicles at the corner of Route 138 and Mill Street in Howick on September 12. According to SQ spokesperson Catherine Bernard, emergency services were called to the scene around 4:15 p.m. No injuries were reported. (Valérie Lessard – Le Journal Saint-François)
Major speeding violations in the region
Officers from the Sûreté du Québec’s MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent station stopped a motorist on Route 209 for speeding at around 10 a.m. on September 10. The driver, a man in his 20s, was clocked driving at 167 kilometres per hour (km/h) in a 90 km/h zone. He was fined $1,463 and received 14 demerit points. His probationary licence was also suspended for a period of seven days.
On September 9, at approximately 9:50 a.m., officers pulled over a motorist on the Rang Six in Sainte-Barbe for speeding. The driver, in his 30s, had been travelling at 145 km/h in a 90 km/h zone. He was fined $1,313 and received 14 demerit points. His driver’s licence was then suspended for 30 days, after he was determined to be a repeat offender.
