Poppy installation piece blooms in Ormstown

A beautiful installation of poppies cascading down a tree outside the St. James Anglican Church in Ormstown has been installed for Remembrance Day. The idea was inspired by some of the large-scale art installation projects with poppies that have taken place in Britain, said Diane Furey, who spearheaded the project. The display, which now includes well over 600 crocheted or knitted poppies of different designs, was first installed last year. Furey explained that they added to the number of flowers for this year and are hoping to keep growing the display. “We are accepting donations,” she added, noting the only criteria are that the poppies be red with black centres. “Everybody knows someone who has served,” Furey explained. “It means something,” she says, of Remembrance Day.
