Rural Youth Gala honours local young people

The 12th edition of the Rural Youth Gala took place at Chateauguay Valley Regional High School on June 2. The event honours young people between the ages of 6 and 24 years for their community action and involvement.

Over 50 area youth were recognized in five categories, including volunteer or citizen involvement, environment, cultural action, school or social perseverance, and resilience and commitment in one’s life course. The program featured a series of performances between award categories, where winners and honourable mentions were announced from a pool of nominees.


The Prix Petit JR was presented to Tamyra Desrosiers during the 12th annual Rural Youth Gala which took place on June 2 in Ormstown PHOTO Sarah Rennie


The evening ended with the awarding of the Prix Petit JR, which was presented to Tamyra Desrosiers who was selected as the most inspiring young person of the year.

The special night was sponsored by Salaberry-Suroît MP Claude DeBellefeuille, Huntingdon MNA Carole Mallette, and the municipalities of Havelock, Saint-Anicet, Très-Saint-Sacrement, Godmanchester, Elgin, and Saint-Chrysostome. It was was organized by the Table de concertation Jeunesse du Haut-Saint-Laurent, Aire Ouverte, and the Montérégie West Community Network. (SR)
