The municipality of Sainte-Barbe marked the return of its winter carnival after a 20-year absence with a festive but frosty celebration on February 8. Snowsuit-clad children and their families flocked to the municipal park for a day of winter-themed activities including sledding, snowshoeing, and skiing, as well as friendly hockey tournament, skating, fat bikes, and snow sculptures. Organized in collaboration with Une Affaire de Famille, the event also included a Christmas tree-throwing challenge, storytelling around the fire with hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows, and warm grillades prepared by the Ormstown Scouts. With a touch of nostalgia, lifelong residents reminisced over the traditional carnival which ran from 1969 to 2006, while new families discovered the event for the first time. Even Bonhomme Carnival made an appearance to the delight of children and all those with fond memories of winter fun over the years. (SR)
