Every year at the annual Sports Awards ceremony, the Ormstown Saracens award bursaries to deserving Chateauguay Valley Regional High School (CVR) athletes with the goal of helping them play rugby during the summer season. This year, in honour of a cherished member of the Ormstown Saracens Rugby Football Club, our annual bursaries were renamed as the Ormstown Saracens Rick Authier Bursaries.
Rick was a leader both on and off the field, had tremendous team spirit, and was respected by all who knew him. The bursaries serve to honour his memory and passion for rugby, while supporting students in pursuit of their ambition to play the game.
The bursary is open to both male and female rugby players who wish to play rugby for the Junior Ormstown Saracens (U14, U16 or U18) during the summer season. Normally, four bursaries of $250 each are awarded. This year, thanks to a generous donation, five bursaries were presented. This year’s winners were Mikayla Reid (U14), Daphne Fontaine (U16), Jade Whyte (U18), Maryjane Whyte (U14), and Jacob Fataki (U14).
