This year the annual Europe trip, organized by Ms. Harper, took place in Portugal and Spain. Mr. McClintock, Ms. Filiatrault, Mr. Lalonde, and Ms. Myatt chaperoned the trip with Ms. Harper.
The students and teachers left on the evening of February 27 and arrived in Lisbon on February 28. They spent two days in the city, then travelled through the countryside of the beautiful country, visiting smaller cities and towns. They visited Cape St. Vincent, Evora, Sagres, Lagos, and Algarve. The students admired the incredible landscape, visited lots of landmarks and cathedrals, and even went swimming in the chilly ocean. They also tried a variety of Portuguese dishes.
On March 4, everyone moved their clocks forward as they entered Spain. They visited Seville on their first day in the lovely country, taking a guided tour of the city and visiting the cathedral of Seville. They then arrived in the sunny Costa del Sol. The following day, they went to Gibraltar, a British territory situated on a stretch of limestone that rises from the Mediterranean Sea with lots of friendly Macaques.
After their day in the U.K., the students returned to Spain. During the rest of their trip, they visited Granada where they took a guided tour of the Alhambra and spent a night out with gypsies, Valencia, and finally Barcelona where they visited the famous Sagrada Familia and toured the rest of the city.
The students and teachers enjoyed many laughs with each other and with the tour guide and bus driver and had an altogether unforgettable experience.
CVR’s very first book club met for the first time before March break, on February 18. The book they decided to read was Scythe by Neal Shusterman and they had their first real meeting on March 12. The students had to read to page 109, and they then got to discuss their thoughts, predictions, and different parts of the book together.
Ms. Bussey and the new librarian for the school board, Ms. Vanessa Finnie, have organized the club for any avid readers at CVR who want to get together with others and share their love of reading. Students from every grade are welcome and they meet every couple of weeks to catch up and discuss.
Volleyball and basketball are starting to come to an end with summer right around the corner. Summer sports are starting up, with the first track and field practices taking place on March 20 and March 24. 3v3 basketball is also taking place this year, the first tryout being on March 24. Five teams will be going to the tournament, taking place from May 16 to 18: a juvenile girls team, a juvenile boys team, a cadet girls team, and a cadet boys team. The level that has the most people trying out and the most promise will send two teams. Rugby is also starting up, with tryouts quickly approaching and lunch practices beginning on the week of March 24.
