Temporary fix in store for damaged culvert in Ormstown

Mayor Philippe Besombes of Ormstown has announced that following a fruitful meeting with the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité Durable (MTMD), a solution has been found for the collapsed culvert forcing the closure of the Lower Concession Road at the border with Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague.

Besombes met with MTMD regional director Claude Thibeault on April 21 to discuss the culvert, as well as other projects including safety at intersections along Route 138, and upcoming paving work on sections of provincial roads within the village that will be affected by upgrades to water and sewer networks.

The damaged culvert is located at the five-kilometre point on the Lower Concession Road, at the boundary with the municipality of Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague where the road continues as the Rang du Trois. According to comments made by the mayor on social media, he and Thibeault discussed the significant impacts the road closure continues to have for residents, farmers, and citizens who rely on this route towards the east.

Besombes reported that following this meeting, he learned on April 29 that work begin this fall on a temporary fix that will allow the road to reopen to traffic. “MTMD teams have identified an innovative engineering solution to reinforce the structure and extend its lifespan,” he said. The plan involves a geopolymer injection that will stabilize and support the culvert until its full replacement within the next seven to eight years.
