Free compost distribution in Beauharnois-Salaberry

Free compost will be available throughout the MRC this spring on May 4 and 11 on a first-come, first-served basis. You must bring a shovel to fill one or two hand-held containers (bucket, bag, or box) per person. On May 4, the distribution sites include the Ecocentre in Sainte-Martine from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the municipal garage in Saint-Étienne-de-Beauharnois from 8 a.m. to noon, the parking lot at Parc Jean-Guy-Ste-Marie in Saint-Urbain-Premier from 8 a.m. to noon, and the parking lot of the Michel-Rochefort Arena in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Compost distribution on May 11 is in Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the vacant lot across from the Petit Pieds daycare centre, and at the Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka town hall from 9 a.m. to noon.

Collection for Guatemala trip

École Arthur-Pigeon students will be collecting cans, medicine containers, wine bottles, bread tags, and aluminum can tabs on May 4 at the Omer-Séguin elementary school (12 Rue Saint-Thomas, Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague), in collaboration with the Genie in a Bottle project.

École Montpetit is holding a can and bottle drive on Saturday, May 4, and Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of Métro Charette (441 Rue Notre-Dame Street in Saint-Chrysostome).

Spaghetti Day

The Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Huntingdon County Hospital (HCH) is holding this fundraiser on Thursday, May 9, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Brasserie du Village (45 Chateauguay Street, Huntingdon). Plants and treasures

The Huntingdon United Church at 182 Chateauguay Street is holding a flea market and plant sale on Friday, May 10, from 2 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

More plants, and an open house in Beauharnois

On May 10 and 11, students from the gardening and production programs at Centre de formation professionelle du Suroit, Edifice des Moissons (260 Rue Gagnon, Beauharnois) will hold a plant sale, including annuals perennials, vegetable plants and herbs, and more, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 11. Ormstown tree giveaway and plant sale

The St. James Anglican Church in Ormstown will be holding a plant and flower sale as of 9 a.m. on May 11. The activity will also feature a tree giveaway hosted by Ambioterra and the municipality of Ormstown, a recycling station with the Genie in a Bottle project, as well as information on the local Women’s Institute, the Butterfly Way project, and garden club. A hot dog lunch will be available to purchase.

Next Communau-T evening

Join in on Tuesday, May 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Heritage Elementary School, 21 King Street, Huntingdon. The free meal will be macaroni and meat sauce, and the theme of the evening is “It’s time to get moving!” Have a social evening and get some ideas on movement and health.

There will be a tree giveaway on Thursday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Saint-Chrysostome town hall parking lot (624 Notre-Dame Street). Bring your bags!

‘When Life Gives You Scraps, Make a Quilt’

This show of more than 150 quilts is being staged on May 17 and 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Congregational Church on Route 11 (Main Street), in Malone, New York. Admission is $5, and there will be raffles.

Garage sale in Howick

Help Howick 4-H raise funds for the Pink School roof! Rent a table for $20 and bring items to sell on May 18; the rental fee goes to the fund. The sale is at the Pink School itself (63 Lambton Street) and runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; reserve your table at 450-374-2912 by May 14.

Well, you can buy even more at the HAECC greenhouse (24 York Street, Huntingdon) on May 18 and 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All plants are produced by the students following organic principles. Edible, annual, perennial, medicinal – they’ve got it all. Pay by cash or Interac.

Relay for Life golf tournament

A golf tournament in support of the Roses des Sables Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life team will take place at the Saint-Anicet Golf Club on June 1, with crossover departures starting at 11:30 a.m. The event includes an 18-hole game, 5 à 7, silent auction, and door prizes.
