Heavy downpours, strong winds, and hail were experienced in pockets across the Valley on May 17 as a series of storms washed over the region.
In a weather summary for that day, Environment and Climate Change Canada noted having received footage of “what appears to be a tornado” spotted just before 7 p.m.in the Howick area The government agency confirmed that an investigation will be conducted to establish whether it was in fact a tornado, and if so, to determine its intensity.
The Northern Tornadoes Project is also investigating the possible tornado. As of the following morning, no damage had been reported. (SR)
