Unique art exhibition coming to Ormstown library

Artist Tara Koury will be launching her participatory art exhibition, Life Through Our Eyes, at the Ormstown municipal library on May 15.

Visitors will be invited to record their own stories, as they experience and interact with eight unique paintings representing a lifespan from birth to death. A notebook will be placed in front of each painting, where viewers will be able to write about any memories or stories that come to mind as they move through the exhibition.

“I really wanted it to be more of a give-and-take than people just coming to see my art,” says Koury, who admits she is driven to find creative ways to reach people through her work. A self-taught artist, she has been bringing members of different communities together through paint-night activities, workshops, and different artistic endeavours for the past two years.

Koury says she believes this exhibition will be an exciting way to bring people into the art world while making the experience of viewing art more accessible.

The vernissage for the exhibition will take place on May 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the show will continue until June 30. Those who are unable to go to the library can still participate in the exhibition via an online portal on the artist’s website: tarakouryartist.com. (SR)
